RE:  MAY 9TH, 2012 BOARD MEETING

The Wellsville-Middletown R-1 Board of Education met in regular session May 9th, 2012 at 6:40 p.m.  The meeting was called to order by President Caren Blaue and Mr. Wales led in the Pledge of Allegiance.  The board approved the agenda as amended, approved the minutes of the April 12th, 2012 special, regular and executive meetings then reviewed financial statements, voted to pay all bills and transfer funds. 

A thank you to the board from the Jeff Carter Family was read.  A resignation from Cheryl Clark as Substitute Nurse was read.

Mrs. Hamlett reported that Prom and Graduation went well.  Thank you to all who made the two nights a success.  Baseball Districts will be held Saturday in Sturgeon and Sectional Track will be in Centralia.  7th and 8th grade awards program and promotion will be May 10th at 7 p.m. and the Athletic Banquet will be May 15th at 6 p.m. in the High School Cafeteria and is sponsored by the Booster Club.  Remember Alex Brown Foundation presentation was this morning and was very well received.  Mrs. Hamlett also stated that Mark Twain was added to the EMO Conference but we will not play a conference game with them for two years.  Winfield and Orchard Farms have dropped from the EMO Conference. 

Mr. Nasir reported current elementary attendance at 95.75% and an enrollment of 205 students.   The School Improvement Committee met on April 19th at 6:30 p.m.  Elementary Summer School Enrollment is currently 100 students.  The Reading Recovery position is still vacated pending Federal Funding.  MAP testing went very smoothly thanks to all our staff and Mrs. Hamlett. 

Mr. Wales reported that Jeff had received three bids for three different gates to be used during extracurricular activities. The state budget should be finalized by Friday; we will then know funding for the upcoming year.  Midwest Computech will be meeting with Mr. Wales and Mr. Nasir to renew the contract for next year and discuss details.  He also discussed the Food Program for Summer School.    

Larry Madsen reported on CTA. This afternoon the new retirement guidelines were used at the retirement reception and were well accepted.  CTA awarded two scholarships; the recipients were Bethany Bishop and Kassy Wille.  New officers have been elected they include:  Chairperson Jonathan McFarland, Co-chairperson Sarah Murdock, Treasurer Michelle Ebers and Secretary Andrea Wilkinson.  The salary committee will be at the June board meeting.
