Dear WMR-1 Tiger Family,
Today is the day, July 1st is finally here! I am honored to be serving the Wellsville-Middletown R-1 community as your 2020-2021 school superintendent. So much has happened over the past few months. We will continue to navigate school through an ever changing response to the pandemic. This will be my 19th year in education, and I see another school year of firsts ahead; however, I am proud to be working with the WMR-1 School District and our community!
I am hoping everyone is as excited to start the 2020-2021 school year as I am. We will be following the school calendar adopted by the Board of Education last semester. Our first day with students in our building will be on August 25, 2020! A team of staff members have been meeting with the Montgomery County Health Department Administrator, Laura Yelton, this summer and will continue to meet with her as we work to create the best re-entry plan for WMR-1. As we all know, the best intentions for a successful re-entry could come to a halt if it is considered necessary by our local health department. We will rely heavily on the health department during re-entry to help us make decisions that will increase our chances of staying safe.
At this time, all of our planning will focus on providing layers of protection. This will include increased handwashing, signage focused on safe practices, replacement of water fountains with bottle fillers, increased high touch area cleaning throughout the day, increased sanitizing procedures just to name a few. By returning to school, we cannot guarantee COVID-19 will not be present. However, by providing layers of protection in our school, we can only hope to decrease the chances of spreading the virus.
You should be receiving important calendar dates regarding back-to-school very soon! I am looking forward to the 2020-2021 school year, and I am very excited to be a WMR-1 Tiger!
