Five Wellsville-Middletown R-I athletes qualified for the Class 1 State Track Meet by placing in the top four in their events at the Class 1 Sectional 1 Meet held Saturday, May 11, 2019 at South Callaway.  Senior Hannah Slovensky ran a career-best 3200m run placing third in the event to earn her first state-qualification in track and field.  Hannah will compete in the state meet at Jefferson City High School on Friday, May 17 at 4:00 PM.  Joining Hannah at the state meet will be the boys’ 4x800m relay team.  Sophomore Mitchell Canterbury, and freshmen Isaac Seabaugh, Keaton Mayes, and Layne Norris secured their first trip to the state track meet with a third place finish in the sectional meet.  The relay team will compete in the event at state on Saturday, May 18 at 11:00 AM.

All of the members of our track team qualified for the sectional meet after a very successful district track meet the previous week.  At the sectional meet freshman Isaac Seabaugh missed qualifying for state individually by one position placing fifth in the 800m run.  Sophomore Jordan Harvey competed in two individual events placing sixth in the shot put and seventh in the 110m hurdles.  Sophomore Jacob Hollensteiner competed in the 300m hurdles placing seventh.

We ran in two sprint relays at the sectional meet.  The boys’ 4x200m relay team of sophomores Jamel Mahaney, Mitchell Canterbury, and Jordan Harvey along with freshman Jason Hollensteiner placed eighth in the event.  The girls’ 4x100m relay team of juniors Elizabeth Burdick and Leti Ancona, sophomore Kennedy Rentfro, and freshman Taren Justice also placed eighth in their event.
